About this piece

With the morning of the millennium now dawning, venerable institutions like Encyclopedia Britannica have faced up to the challenge of re-engineering to take advantage of new markets yet unborn: de-emphasize the tradition of door-to-door sales; transition from the traditional bound books for the home library; re-purpose content in new media for new markets in the new millennium. We can all learn from the journey of this icon of education to change its role as a repository of knowledge.

The gorgeous box for the 1999 Encyclopedia Britannica, Digital Video Disc edition exemplifies the use of foil, and emboss to catch the eye.

The Brandtjen & Kluge Best Use of Foil, Embossing and/or Debossing goes to frequent International Gallery entrant and winner, Madison Cutting Die of Madison, Wisconsin.
