About this piece
"Primal Forces"
As our lifetimes edge ever
longer, how many of us will fully escape a harrowing confrontation with
nature’s fury? That
perhaps is a corollary lesson to be gleaned from this beautiful book –
which of us will not come face to face with the unleashed dervishes of
the natural world exploding?
And in the touseled tableau
of the calm behind a storm we see that indeed a terrible beauty is born.
Nature carves and shakes and pours & molds in a crazy quilt of
unknowable power until the new seedling sprouts amidst the destruction of
the old.
In a lighter view, one
might say the same for our industry.
This book is a worthy
counterpart to its fellow but earlier winners whose works celebrated the
glass fantasies of Dale Chiluly, or the retro hotrods of the Southwest,
or sweet baby’s breath become angel’s wings.
This book marries the photographer’s artistic vision to the
story teller’s craft of verbal history to create a stunning testament
to a higher power.
We congratulate Lincoln
& Allen of the Portland Club for their selection as the Frank C.
Anderko/Worzalla Best Book Award for the book titled Primal Forces.
