About this piece
"W.M. Keck Foundation Annual Report"
A
century ago, wildcatters began to mine the black gold in Southern
California. Famous names
like Getty and Armand Hammer, and less ostentatious names like W.M. Keck
became rich beyond reckoning in the rough neck world of the oil business.
Mr.
Keck created a foundation to share his good fortune, and today the W.M.
Keck Foundation has assets of well over a billion dollars.
A focal point for the foundation has been the Southern California
Project which seeks to aid programs aimed at children in the barrios and
ghettos of want and despair. “Rather
than showcase organizations and programs that we have funded however, we
wanted to focus on the kids themselves.”
Called
“Voices”, the annual report is supported by portrait after portrait
of openly optimistic kids whose hope for a fulfilling future, are
palpably poignant on each succeeding page.
“When
I teach someone else, I feel relieved, like a debt is being paid.” Says
Brittany age 13. Mr.
Keck’s Foundation continues to re-pay his good fortune, many times
over.
Our
congratulations, to second time Best of the Best winner, Lithographix of
San Francisco, on their winning of the GTI Inc., Best Non Profit
Promotion Award.
