Your Craftsmen Network at work
Joe Benoit of Moore Graphics and the Capital District Club called Headquarters and asked for leads for full service web printers in Miami, Florida. Headquarters did the research and found Joe six leads with whom he was able to follow-up and set meeting appointments. Headquarters also asked Joe to notify Headquarters if any of the leads received his business, in which case Headquarters would contact the firm about membership and the Gallery.
Liz at Impressions and a member of the Mid-Hudson Club called Headquarters and asked how she might find sample job descriptions for press operator positions. Headquarters put her in contact with the National Skill Standards Project and asked John Berthelsen of Suttle Press and the Madison Area Club if he would be willing to share relevant material. John e-mailed and faxed copies of job descriptions for both press operators and press assistants which Headquarters then sent on to Liz.
Steve Seward who works with John MacKinnon of Hastings Press and the Kalamazoo Valley Club called Headquarters and asked if there was any information about making a proposal to take over a facilities management opportunity. Headquarters sent materials provided by Stewart Graham of Ohio Northern University and the Lima Area Club.
If you have a problem finding a solution or have an example of how the Craftsmen Network has recently benefited you, we'd like to hear about it. Just send an e-mail to International Headquarters.
Paper Price Increases
Industry representatives announced today that due to increased pressure from environmental and animal activists groups, the U.S. and Canadian governments will be introducing a North American tarif on all raw pulp which will be effective immediately. In an early press release, experts predict that the price of finished paper products will increase by approximately forty to sixty percent by the end of this month. It was indicated that due to a combination of global warming and an increase in termite population that this could well be the first of several increases to be implemented over the next several months. It is estimated that by the end of 1997 paper prices could increase by up to four hundred percent. Printing industry representatives are now lobbying for a court injunction against the tarif as it is estimated that the increase in paper prices (which will be the largest in 64 years) could be financially devestating to those involved in the graphic arts industry.
If you have concerns about this new tarif and would like to voice your opinion, you can write to your local congressman or member of parliament, or check the posting date of this article. April fools.
