Your Craftsmen Network at work
Rob Julander of Julander Printing and the Des Moines Club was reading a previous issue of Tuesday Morning News and saw that Headquarters had provided information to Mike Handlin of Uarco Impressions and the East Bay Club about the Kinko’s organization. Rob e-mailed IAPHC Headquarters and asked for the same information along with any business plans. Headquarters mailed both items to Rob.
Tom Newland of Insty-Prints and a member-at-large called Headquarters and asked about finding a source of supply for a non-standard size pin fed label requested by one of his customers. Headquarters faxed several Craftsmen members in the label business and within the hour was able to get back to Tom with information from Colin Campbell of Thames Label and Litho, Ltd., and the London Club and Dave Slocumb of Oklahoma Label and the Tulsa Club.
Cindy Noah of Hot Dot Images and the Milwaukee-Racine Club called Headquarters and asked for any information, manuals or templates for a Quality Assurance Program. Headquarters called Ed Kelly of Kelly and Associates and the Central Minnesota Club and Ed provided a list of reference manuals available from NAPL as well as suggesting that Cindy contact John Compton of the T & E education arm of the Rochester Institute of Technology. Headquarters passed along 800 numbers for both.
If you have a problem finding a solution or have an example of how the Craftsmen Network has recently benefited you, we'd like to hear about it. Just send an e-mail to International Headquarters.
A few words from our friends at NAPL
In the current issue of the National Association of Printers and Lithographers (NAPL) newsletter NAPL's Profit Connection, the IAPHC's website gets some favorable press.
"Once you've thoroughly explored the NAPL Profit Connection(R) Web site, you may want to try something different.....For example, the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen (IAPHC) has created a site for the job-seeking professional. Its job listing area enables you to add a resume or job posting, and browse either section.
This site also sponsors interactive forums, including both large press and prepress. If you're still uncomfortable with posting messages, the IAPHC provides users with a practice forum to ensure they know how to post, so new users need not fear making a mistake."
Upcoming IAPHC Events
International Gallery Of Superb Printing Chair Kevin Keane was able to use a personal connection to get some free publicity for the Gallery in Bob Hall's Monday Morning Fax newsletter in the February 7, 1997 edition. Almost immediately one of Mr. Hall's subscribers in Ypsilanti, Michigan phoned to request a copy of the Call for Entries. The bi-monthly newsletter is aimed at the service printing segment and is published by Quick Printing magazine editor Bob Hall and his wife Karen. For more info on the newsletter call 304-744-7022 or e-mail BrownDawg@aol.com
Here comes the digital bride?
Two of the IAPHC's newest members, recruited by the IAPHC's CEO, are John Bryant and Bill Lynch of Vallon Inc. In the Minneapolis StarTribune issue of 2-8-97 Vallon announced that Sir Speedy/PIP became the first of the nationwide chains of quick print stores to distribute Vallon's Net Propulsion system to sell and design web sites in the same manner as they might sell wedding invitations.
