Your Knowledge Network at Work
Shirley Varga of Spencer Printing in Flint Michigan and an IAPHC member-at-large called past International President Jim Dick of Myers Printing and the Lansing Club and asked a question regarding who owns artwork, files, plates and the like: the printer or the customer? Jim faxed Shirley a copy of the Revised Trade Customs of the Graphic Arts and suggested that Shirley call Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters and ask him for a legal opinion. Kevin provided both a legal opinion as well as some practical advice about the printer/customer relationship.
On Monday August 4th, Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters sent an "all points" e-mail to Craftsmen members with e-mail addresses. There were three requests from Craftsmen members who wanted access to Your Knowledge Network At Work. (The acronym is Y'KNAW; ya know what we mean?)
By the time this issue of Tuesday Morning News went to digital press, in less than 24 hours, Jeanann Georgianna of Wine Merchants and the Syracuse Club had received responses from Kathy Hinsman of Allegheny Printed Plastics and the Pittsburgh Club; Larry Nelson of the San Francisco Club; and Paula Theophila of the Akron Club offering unique Craftsmen KNOWLEDGE about die cutting high density plastic for a wine bottle 'bottle necker.'
In turn Paula Theophila of the Akron Club had requested assistance from the all points Y'KNAW. Paula wanted help in tracking down a line of preprinted wedding program papers. With amazing e-mail alacrity Paula received responses from Jody Sorsen of Printed Media Companies (in Minneapolis) and a member of the Fort Wayne Club -- Jody suggested that Paula contact Augsburg Fortress in Minneapolis, a client of Printed Media; and Tammie Aaron of the Pittsburgh Club sent Paula an e-mail indicating that Tammie is a distributor for Birchcraft Studios (Williamshouse Regency).
Rapid Response! Amazing Alacrity! Craftsmen connecting with Craftsmen!
How tremendously valuable is Y'KNAW?
As we pointed out in an issue of Tuesday Morning News last month, on July 4th Bruce Kenworthy of Phoenix Press and retiring president of the Calgary Club sent Kevin Keane an e-mail in which he wrote: "Your vast well of knowledge is an asset to our organization and to our Calgary Club. Also, the Knowledge Network is probably the most profitable advantage of being a member of IAPHC."
Y'KNAW is one heck of a valuable member benefit. And the IAPHC remains a remarkably, even absurdly low priced provider of this 'most profitable advantage.'
How low priced?
Well, you could belong to the National Association of Quick Printers (NAQP) for $349 in yearly dues (or $695 for platinum membership); or you could belong to the National Association of Printers and Lithographers (NAPL) for $295 in annual dues if your annual sales volume is less than $500,000. If your sales volume is in the half million to million dollar range then your annual NAPL dues would be $390. Or if you work in customer service, or at the front counter of a small service printer, you could belong to the Society for Service Professionals in Printing. Your annual SSPP dues would be $220 the first year and $135 thereafter.
IAPHC and Y'KNAW. WOW, what a bargain!
