Your Craftsmen Network at Work
Dale Beane, a member from Falcon Heights, Minnesota, who owns a franchised print shop, called Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters to inquire into the legality of adding a clause to his employee handbook indicating that if a resigning employee did not provide two weeks written notice, said employee would forfeit all accrued vacation and leave time. Kevin explained to Dale how this could be done and what the down sides might be in this fast changing area of employment law.
Mary Raymond of the Syracuse Club and Paper Conversions Inc., faxed Kevin Keane asking for a list of companies who might be able to print game boards. Mary needed such a list in an effort to assist a potential client. Paper Conversions Inc (PCI) has entered and won many awards in the International Gallery of Superb Printing in recent years for it's proprietary process to print four color, three dimensional paper note cubes. Kevin had recently fielded a request for board game printers from JD Prather of the Tulsa Club and had obtained several good leads for JD from John Berthelsen of the Madison Area Club and Suttle Press.
An e-mail to John and JD yielded a plethora of company names for Mary, some of which, ironically, were already customers of PCI. As it happens, the fax from Mary came into IAPHC Headquarters on the second day of judging of the International Gallery of Superb Printing. Sue Schmidt, International Membership Chair and member of the Milwaukee Racine Club was in Minneapolis to assist with the judging and saw the fax and suggested still another name for Mary -- Suzanne Lynch at A to Z Printing. Sue wrote in a follow-up e-mail to Kevin Keane: "Ironically, JUST THIS MORNING Suzanne was looking for a NOTE CUBE PRINTER!"
Tom Newland a member from Spring Lake Park Minnesota called Kevin Keane and indicated that he wanted to provide printed POST-IT notes for a customer of his service printing business. Kevin suggested that Tom call Mary Raymond at PCI in Syracuse because they had licensed the technology to produce the POST-IT notes from 3M Company.
If you have a problem finding a solution or have an example of how the Craftsmen Network has recently benefited you, we'd like to hear about it. Just send an e-mail to International Headquarters.
