Your Craftsmen Network at Work
Nancy Lundin of Imperial Litho and the Milwaukee-Racine Club called Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters and asked for contacts who could educate her on current developments in Computer-to-Plate (CTP). Nancy's firm is considering employing that technology. Kevin knew that Mike Hemmelgarn of the Central Minnesota Printing Professionals, a member of the IAPHC, was uniquely able to help Nancy. Mike had worked on the customer side when he was with Bankers Systems and they installed a beta test of CTP; and now that Mike sells for Mitsubishi/Western Lithotech he understands developments on the vendor side of the equation. Mike spoke to Nancy for 45 minutes and sent her follow-up information even though she is not in his sales territory. While the latter is a typical example of Craftsmen abiding by our 78 year old motto "Share Your Knowledge," this example of Your Knowledge Network At Work gives quiet testimony to the newly adopted IAPHC Mission Statement, a key element of which holds that one purpose of Craftsmanship to assure "...their companies success..." Mike may not personally make a sale to Nancy, but perhaps his company will.
Walt Gutowski, Jr. of Swift Printing and the Grand Rapids Club called Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters and asked for help from the Knowledge Network of Craftsmanship regarding two distinct issues. One: he wanted help with recommendations for booklet makers competitive with the Duplo machine. He got e-mails with recommendations from Bob Schneider of the Cincinnati Club and John Berthelesen of the Madison Area Club and Don Davidson of the Des Moines Club. Two: he needed help with a special 11" x 17" carbonless form. Tammie Aaron of the Pittsburgh Club, logged on from Birmingham Alabama got Kevin's all points bulletin requesting help and provided Walt with a lead. Walt said of the Craftsmen who helped him, paraphrasing Muhammad Ali: "You're the Greatest!"
JD Prather, former Ninth District Governor sent Kevin Keane an e-mail asking for assistance in tracking down a printer who could print a 24" by 28" game board. Kevin forwarded the request to John Berthelsen of Suttle Press and the Madison Area Club. John provided JD a list of four possibilities, one of which was Prismagraphics in Milwaukee, which is the employer of IAPHC Secretary Treasurer Tony Sarubbi and IAPHC Membership Chair Sue Schmidt.
