Your Craftsmen Network at Work
Martie Hughes of the Buffalo Club e-mailed Kevin Keane at IAPHC Headquarters and asked for help in tracking down a machine called a Vacuumatic to help provide accurate counts of incoming mail items, including business reply cards and business reply envelopes. Kevin hooked Martie up with Gary Preston of the Columbus Club. Gary suggested that using an old Baum friction feed folder with a counter/kicker on it might work. Kevin had also copied Martie's original inquiry to Bill Maguire of the Jacksonville Club and The Bindery of Jacksonville. Bill had his close friend, Irwin Sachs, head of Vacuumatic USA in Long Island NY contact Martie.
Martie later e-mailed Kevin: "This Craftsmanship stuff is the BEST! (I think we need to coin a new term for this kind of Sharing.....CyberKnow? CyberShare? CyberCraft? Nah, we got it right the first time ... CraftNet!)"
Dale Beane owns a convenience printing franchise and is a member in St. Paul, Minnesota. He and a fellow franchisee wanted produce a mailer that favorably compared their high speed copy prices to Kinko's, but they were concerned about being accused of trademark infringement. Dale asked Kevin Keane for his assistance and received a memo that covered both the legal issues as well as offering some marketing suggestions to better compete with Kinko's.
Karen McConnell Kemp of the Rochester Club called IAPHC Headquarters and asked for leads on printers who could handle the printing needs of an ad agency in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Kevin Keane wrote Karen a memo detailing five different sources of potential leads including printing firms in Atlanta who advertise as specializing in ad inserts, direct mail and the like. One of the best sources of leads should be past International President Tom Cooper, a member-at-large who is retired from a very active career in the Atlanta printing market.
If you have a problem finding a solution or have an example of how the Craftsmen Network has recently benefited you, we'd like to hear about it. Just send an e-mail to International Headquarters.

The 7th District Conference last weekend was hosted by the Clemson University Department of Graphic Communications and included an all day workshop to teach members how to construct club sites. Kudos to 7th District Governor John Leininger, his wife Nancy Leininger, and fellow faculty member Michael Grant and all the members of the 7th District for promoting the spirit of CraftNet and for constructing the new 7th District Website.
The Seattle Club, host of this years Convention, is now online in the Pacific Northwest.
The 11th District now has a geographical map index to direct you to each of the district clubs.
