By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO - Speaking of CraftNet, Monday's mail brought the $6,000 CraftNet sponsorship from Fuji Photo Film USA. Fuji is sponsoring one of the most impressive segments of CraftNet which is the Communicating on the Internet section, a fabulous primer for anyone new to the online world, written and compiled by CraftNet webmaster Dan Millsip of Renaissance Web Creation Inc. and the Fraser Valley Club in British Columbia. Last week, we reported that Heidelberg USA has also signed on a CraftNet sponsor. We thank these two stalwart graphic arts firms for their kind support, as well past IAPHC Chairman Chris Kerlick for facilitating both of these commitments. - We also received a $300 check today from the Des Moines Club which has now sponsored two full months of CraftNet server rental space. The Sixth District had earlier sponsored a month's rental as well. We thank Des Moines for their support which makes our website available to all members. - Central Minnesota Club member Mike Hemmelgarn dropped by the IAPHC offices the other day. He works for Mitsubishi Western Lithotech. Mike mentioned that once or twice a year his firm, based in St. Louis, sends a memo to its entire sales force encouraging each sales rep to join one or more Craftsmen's Clubs. Why? Because ultimately, it's good for business. We appreciate the support of Mitsubishi and hope that more supplier firms will follow their lead. - The marketing of International Gallery award sponsorships in which a select roster of world class supplier firms obtains the naming rights on the top International Gallery of Superb Printing Awards is progressing nicely. We thank Chairman Larry Nelson and 11th District Governor Marjie Swiatek and International Printing Week Chair Frieda Sarubbi for providing us excellent leads last week and remind all readers that we will do all necessary follow-up if you provide us a contact name, title and address. On 3 April we received the sponsorship fee for the newly named Finch, Pruyn Best Use of Paper Award. Finch, Pruyn has been a long time supporter of Craftsmen Club activities in New York State and elsewhere. We thank Tom Lapham and his firm for their generous support and note that the initial contact was made by Frieda Sarubbi. - We received a nice e-mail on 1 April from Joel Friedman, Executive Director of the Heidelberg Digital Imaging Association (HDIA). "Please send more info about the International Gallery of Superb Printing. If there is still time, we can announce this directly to our DI user members." With the basic entry deadline of 15 May 1998 there is still plenty of time for Joel to send a copy of the Call for Entries to his membership. - The Craftsmen Foundation continues to gather momentum. Judy Moellering of the Diablo Club and Rusty Burkett of the Sierra Nevada Club are the latest to join the lengthy list of supporters. Their respective $100 pledge payments arrived in the past few days. On 2 April 1998, we received the following e- mail from Dave Albrecht, president of the Mid-Hudson Club: "Kevin, I would like to be considered a Craftsmen Foundation Founder also, if it is still possible. Send me an invoice." It is still possible. Judy and Rusty and Dave will be noted as Founders as will all others who have elected or may elect on a strictly voluntary basis to support The Craftsmen Foundation with their pledge prior to the opening ceremonies of the 79th IAPHC Convention in August, 1998. - Rochester Convention Reminder: It's time to start making your reservations and registrations for the Rochester Convention. The cutoff to take advantage of the early bird registration fee for members is June 15th, 1998. If you need a copy of the Convention Registration form, or the Hotel Reservation form or the tentative member program faxed to you, just let us know. If you have additional questions, you can contact Rochester Convention Coordinator Paula Steenson at 402-346-3950. |
