By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO Some comments from members: Regarding Y'KNOW -- On Friday April 10, 1998 we sent out an all points e-mail distribution with five requests for assistance from the Knowledge Network of Craftsmanship. One of those requests was from Robin Goodwin of the Rochester Club, On Monday April 13 she wrote: "Kevin, There's that Craftsmen Network at it's best. I received 2 responses with 3 sources. Kudos to the Club." Regarding Tuesday Morning News -- From Montreal member Jean-Guy Alarie, via e-mail on 11 April: "Thanks for your Craftsmanship and a job well done." From San Francisco Club member Bev Morgan via e-mail on April 9: "Kevin, I'm a member of the San Francisco Club, a sales coordinator at GEORGE LITHOGRAPH, and an avid reader of the "News." Thanks for doing it. I may not always have the time to read it in a single sitting, but it "keeps" well in my in-box and is always worth the time when I do sit down to learn about the industry. And I also appreciate the mix of club news with business news.....Keep up the good work." Regarding the Gallery of Superb Printing: From Wichita Club member Rex Abrahams via e-mail on April 10: "Kevin, Just thought you might like to know that the GI JOE COLLECTOR'S CLUB has a picture of a Gallery of Superb Printing Award they won at the Heart of America Superb Printing Competition last year on their homepage. This award was issued at the International Printing Week banquet in Wichita last year. My company (ETS Graphics) did the work on the litho box that won the award.... Anyway, thought you might like to know that the Craftsmen's organization continues to get exposure in unknown ways. You can see the award at: www.mastercollector.com/neat/gijoe/club/febnews.pdf The Craftsman Foundation A milestone in the growth of this new initiative was reached last week as the $10,000 dollar mark was passed. This week The Craftsman Foundation continues to grow with a three hundred dollar contribution from the Sierra-Nevada Club and Jeff Mayer of the Mid-Hudson Club sent in his $100 pledge. A reminder for anyone who desires and is able to participate in growth of The Craftsmen Foundation -- you will be considered a Founder if you make your pledge prior to the Rochester Convention this August. Again, this effort is strictly a volunteer one. Thank you to all who have participated thus far. Rochester Convention News Allow us to repeat an item from last week's Tuesday Morning News, anyone who would like a copy of the Convention Registration form and the Hotel Reservation form should call, fax or e-mail and we will fax back to you pronto. Member-at-large Martie Hughes phoned with the great news that Hangar 18 Interactive has agreed to be a Platinum sponsor of the 79th IAPHC Convention in Rochester this August. Hangar 18 Interactive will be sponsoring festivities at the Closing Banquet as well as supplying two workshops about Internet marketing and development. Calling ALL International Gallery Entries We received the good news on Friday that our old friend Gil van der Ham, CEO of Blanks USA here in Minneapolis, is the latest to join the growing roster of sponsors for the 1998 International Gallery. Thanks Gil. We've often recommended your firm, your gracious support is the very nicest kind of payback. Friday's UPS delivery brought 18 International Gallery entries from RPP Printing Enterprises, Inc. Last year RPP entered 15 pieces. We obtained RPP's participation in the International Gallery after spotting the name of the firm in a booklet prepared by the graphics program at the University of Wisconsin -- Stout. And again we note the obvious lesson -- one can prospect for International Gallery entries everywhere. And previous entrants tend to enter more pieces in the following years. And that's wonderful! Anyone reading this newsletter should be asking -- has my Club already held our Gallery? If so, have we submitted our entries as yet? Who can I call to find out or just to offer a gentle reminder? Who do I know in the global graphic arts community who might be interested in entering -- and we do mean GLOBAL! Similarly, if you are a member at large -- you might ask yourself, has my firm entered as yet? |
