By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO Plug in and Tune In - "Hi Kevin, I have been meaning to contact you for many weeks and congratulate you on Tuesday Morning News. When an old {curmudgeon} like me sells out and heads for the foothills, we lose contact with our local club and all the happenings from IAPHC ... So I rely on my computer every Tuesday to keep up with ... our Association. I am sure there are many retired members in the same boat as I am who would love to stay in contact with all the latest happenings, but have failed to send you their e-mail address." Jack Failor, Proud life member, Sacramento Club, on 19 April. - 12th District becomes the first to have District Meeting online! Our congratulations to Bill Leahy, 12th District Governor for having the foresight to conduct the next 12th District meeting online. Most of us know what a rush hour commute is like on Southern California freeways. Moreover, the Phoenix Club is geographically removed and Mark Barbour, Curator of the International Printing Musuem and president of the Santa Monica Bay Club needs to fulfill his co-parenting duties and can't always easily attend a more formal meeting. We expect that more Clubs and Districts will discover the power of meeting online. - Job Hunting? Our webmaster Dan Millsip reminds you to not forget that several employment opportunities are posted on our world class and award winning website CraftNet at www.iaphc.org/resumes Y'KNOW help? From new member-at-large and former Club officer Roger Buck of Girard, Kansas on 17 April: "We are a rotary business forms manufacturer which recently installed an Evtec sheeter on one of our machines. We have been having some problems with a particular order that has large screen coverage (90% of the page) in that the pull wheels and delivery belt systems cause tracking. Our production department is not equipped with dryers and, naturally, we have no experience with them. Does anyone have a suggestion (s) as to what we might try to eliminate this problem? Obviously we would prefer to go with a solution that does not require any heavy OSHA requirements. Thank you for your help in this matter. You can e-mail me at roger%cfc-ks@cfcmail.com The Craftsmen Foundation The list of Founders continues to grow. Jack Failor: "To show my appreciation and my support, please send me an invoice for $100, and I too will become one of the new Craftsmen Foundation members." Tony Roraback of the East Bay Club called late last week to say he would be adding his name to the list. And Mark Reinhold, long time member of the St. Louis Club who has been fighting some serious health challenges sent 8th District Governor Cindy Johnson a note: "I am sending this check to show how serious I am at returning to Craftsmanship." We again thank all members who are voluntarily supporting the Foundation. Growth of Gallery Ed Kelly sent a note from the IPA Bulletin. "Discover Color, Madison Wisconsin, was awarded the 1998 Best of Show Award at the Gallery of Superb Printing for the Madison Area Club of Printing House Craftsmen. Discover Color received the award for superb craftsmanship in the production of Discover Color self promotion." We hope that Terry Emmrich and Kathy Schoenick and other members of the Madison Area Club who receive Tuesday Morning News will encourage Discover Color to enter the International Gallery as well. Our thanks to Howard Feinman of the North Jersey Club who submitted the final contingent of entries from his company, Applied Printing Technologies, a first time entrant. APT entered 22 pieces all told, and we thank the firm and Howard in particular for this wonderful support. Our congratulations also go to the Detroit Club for their best Gallery yet, which they enjoyed last week. International Craftsman of the Year, Mike Stinnett of the Detroit Club tells us that he has recommended to the Detroit Board that they submit the top ten entries in their people's choice competition to the International Gallery. Our thanks also go to Ron Pergande of the Los Angeles Club. Perhaps Ron wants to qualify under the Great Gallery Giveback promotion in which any individual member who secures 50 or more International Gallery entries prior to the double secret, final, final entry deadline of June 13th wins a trip to our 1999 Mid-Year meeting in Las Vegas. Ron is in sales for Gummed Papers of America and he has been passing out copies of the Call for Entries to folks in his territory. Last week we received a first time entry from Bill Meyer of Four Star Printing in Palmdale, California and one from Randy at Maskell Graphics in Glendale, California. Both paid at the non-member, unmounted entry fee of $65 so perhaps they might be membership prospects for the closest Club as well. |
