Your Knowledge Network at Work
By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO

It's Amazing, Y'KNOW?

Last week we received an e-mail request for help from Anita Thiel president of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Club. She needed info about foil stamping and embossing. We knew of eight different Craftsmen members who had e-mail and who had expertise in the specified area. The same day Anita received a detailed e-mail response with precisely the assistance she needed from Colin Campbell, president of the London, Ontario Club.

The key benefits to belonging to the IAPHC include

- Near instantaneous Sharing of Knowledge, regarding both the industry and the Association through new technologies including this ever more eagerly anticipated e-mail newsletter.

- Access to an ever more global Knowledge Network of Craftsmanship, with incredibly detailed and expert advice.

- Ability to reward employees and thank customers by success in the International Gallery of Superb Printing.

- The potential to improve your business from an idea gleaned from this newsletter; from a tidbit e-mailed you from a fellow member located hundreds of mile away; by your firm being recommended for your craft.

And on the last point, we quote an e-mail responding to some Y'KNOW requests sent out earlier this month:

"Good morning Kevin, I enjoy your articles very much. I just provided Joy Wilson (Madison Area Club) the name of Adams-McClure, Inc as a source for lenticular printing. They are a minority owned business making a national name for themselves. Bob Adams is quite a talented leader of this organization who does not and need not use the status of a minority owned business. I am pleased to introduce them that way as we have few minority owned businesses that have made such an impact on our craft. This company is outstanding in what they do." Ralph Moreman, General Manager, Current, Inc., Colorado Springs, CO.

CLUB Y'KNOW

Dave Holman president elect of the Detroit Club has two inquiries he needs your help with. You can e-mail Dave at holman@mich.com

Q1) This spring/early summer I would like to mail out a questionnaire to our membership or conduct a phone survey. We have a lot of members who don't show up or don't show up on a regular basis to our monthly meetings. I would like to find out why and see what we can do to improve attendance. (i.e., different meeting night, location, program topics they want to learn about, etc.) Do you have any samples of what other Clubs may have done?

Q2) I have targeted certain companies I would like to approach regarding new membership in our Club (and advertising in our Bulletin etc.) Do you have any sample letters of introduction that other Clubs might be using?

We applaud Dave for his foresight in these two worthy projects and hope that you might be able to help him with your insights.
