![]() February 10, 1998 Previous TMN Issues IAPHC MidYear Meeting Report I wanted to offer my sincere thanks for your concerned and careful response to the urgent need for crafting a plan to move our Association forward. I felt in my heart that you would respond with support and with creativity. You exceeded those expectations. 4 New Platinum Members! Our thanks to Cathy Hatfield of Greater Lexington; Rick Salberg of North Shore; Karen Schuetz of Seattle and Dave Simas of East Bay for emphasizing their pride and passion for Craftsmanship by becoming Platinum members. Rochester Pins, Shirts and Pre-Registrations 46 of you ordered Rochester Convention pins. Teresa has just finished boxing up each order and they will be going in the mail tomorrow. We may not make a lot of money on each pin, but as you know, every dollar helps! If you would like to obtain more pins to sell at your Club or District functions, just let us know. CraftNet Challenge II We wanted to again thank several of you for the generous contributions to CraftNet Challenge II which was begun with an initial funding by our Chairman Larry Nelson. Larry Nelson $500 Grand Rapids Club $1,000 North Jersey Club $500 Triangle Club $200 Sierra-Nevada Club $200 International Gallery Commitments I told you about the commitment from Merle Christner with regard the 80 International Gallery entries which will be forthcoming from the Wichita and Mid-Kansas Clubs; and I mentioned the nearly 60 coming from the Portland Club. You heard from Al Forrester of the Yosemite Area Club, and today, Third District Governor Len Petitti called to report that the Buffalo Club has committed to 80 entries. International Gallery Duplicate Orders Today's mail brought 7 duplicate orders from the Central Minnesota Club; and a check for $440 from Alan Grossberg of Grossberg Tyler Lithographers (Color Graphics) in Seattle for 11 International Gallery duplicates; plus other duplicate orders from the 3rd, 8th and 11th Districts. Video Orders Today we received a faxed video order from my one-time secretary Becky Ellefloot. She and her husband Bill now run a very successful printing business in Idaho. I sent them a mailing which included a no-obligation Membership-at-Large invoice (the check for which is in the mail, says Becky) and in which I also included an order form for Elliott King's video "The Professional Guide to Graphic Design and Commercial Printing." Ninth District Governor Shane Hart asked me to fax him the order form and I've done so. On Friday while we were in meetings, the post office attempted to deliver the first batch of six tapes ordered by members including one ordered by Secretary-Treasurer Tony Sarubbi. Again, our margin on these tapes isn't huge, but every dollar of revenue is appreciated and necessary. Speaking of members-at-large In addition to the story I related to you of former East Bay member Judy Cochrane becoming a member-at-large for three years at $120; we received checks from Roger and Nancy Banks of Waco, Texas (3 year renewal) and Galen Bicking of St. Michael, Minnesota (3 year renewal) and of course Bill and Becky Ellefloot. Membership It was wonderful to hear the ceaseless determination of Lou Woods and Ed Levy in their never ending drive to recruit another member. And I was very impressed by new IAPHC Membership Chair Tony Roraback's suggestion that we ask prospective members for their support of the mission of the IAPHC by becoming members instead of uttering the dreaded 'join' word. 1) During the CraftNet meeting on Friday our Webmaster Dan Millsip asked that we give him one sentence testimonials of the value of Craftsmen membership to you. 2) I told you on several occasions of my belief that 8 out of 10 graphic arts professionals have never heard of us. Today I received a call from Bill Zimmerman of Holly Printing in Pulaski Tennessee. He saw the IAPHC logo as one of the sponsoring organizations in the brochure describing the National Skill Standards project. He said he wanted IAPHC membership info and felt that out logo was the most striking of all the organizations listed in the Skill Standards brochure. Sponsorships If you have leads for Corporate Sponsorships whether of the International Gallery, CraftNet or the Rochester Convention, please forward them to me or one of the IAPHC Executive Officers. As we all agreed, this is a powerful opportunity which can be maximized by getting to the right person through your assistance. E-Mail Addresses One last plea. I received e-mail addresses from Tom Gross of the Charlotte Club and Dave Simas of East Bay and Jan Johnson of Sierra-Nevada because I asked for them. (You can see in the address block of this message how many of our weekend warriors have e-mail!) Anything you can do to help get more e- mail addresses from your Club is very helpful. Please ask for them at your next meeting. Yours in Craftsmanship, Kevin Keane IAPHC Previous TMN Issues Navigation Tip: Click on the large TMN graphic to return to the most current version of TMN.
