Of The Value of Membership
By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO

One of the ironies of the IAPHC is that so many members have no idea what is available to them just for the asking. At Headquarters we see ourselves as the very fortunate curators of the vast library of knowledge found in the individual experiences, skill sets and unique knowledge possessed by each INDIVIDUAL member no matter where located. Knowledge that was hard won but which, in keeping with our Share Your Knowledge motto, is freely given. No one member can possible know what all these combined members know. Yet many of our members do not know about this immensely valuable member benefit.
As the wonderful character actor Strother Martin said in the movie Cool Hand Luke: "What we have here is a failure to communicate!"
E-mail is a wonderful tool with which to communicate. And every day we field inquiry after inquiry from members who need help from Your Knowledge Network.
Until you need help, or until you access the Knowledge Network, you may not know of this benefit. Because ours is an individual membership association, when one member needs help, it is of little importance to thousands of others. But it is a fact that the help is available. That fact confirms that your decision to join was the right one. And co-incidentally it pays for your dues, perhaps many times over, with just one answer from Your Knowledge Network.
Help us spread the word won't you?
Or to put a profitable face on it: Last Friday afternoon I received a call from a commercial photographer in Utah who was looking for a world class printer of a coffee table style art book of "exquisite" photos of the Colorado River plateau, and who wondered if the current exchange rates made doing a business with a printer overseas worthwhile, I could happily recommend printers in Vancouver, and San Francisco and Winnipeg, and Reno, and Montreal and Rochester, New York and even London, England. All printers whose work I've seen entered in the International Gallery. And what would that job be worth to the member firm who got the order?
