By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO Every day it is our pleasure to assist a member in need to make a connection through the Knowledge Network with another member located near or far who possesses the specific expertise to get the job done. In the past several days: - We helped Jim Dallas of Sacramento find short run 4/C printers in San Diego, a fellow member in Laguna, California helped find the leads. - We answered a query from Richard Jones of Los Angeles who needed to know about traveling into Canada (immigration, currency restrictions, etc.) when he sojourns in Toronto for a couple of days after the Rochester Convention. - Paula Theophila of Akron has a co-worker relocating to Seattle. We gave Paula a series of e-mail contacts in the Seattle Club and specifically recommended a job lead in the paper industry for her friend. - Karen Woolley of Hamilton called today needing screen printing expertise. We were able to give her a referral to the Screen Printing Association and to three members with specific expertise -- each of whom we knew about thanks to their entries in the International Gallery of Superb Printing. - A woman from the Madison, Wisconsin technical college called looking for information about materials to encourage young people to consider careers in the graphic arts. We told her about the new GATF book called Careers in Graphic Communications: A Resource Book and informed her about the wonderful CD titled Discover Print from the Education Council of the Graphic Arts. - Martie Hughes from Buffalo called looking for information about a mysterious shut down problem in the Macintosh computers in her office. We referred her to Kathy Schoenick of the Madison Area Club. Martie said, again, THIS is what Craftsmanship is all about. - And finally Dave Albrecht of the Mid-Hudson Club e-mailed us this example of networking. "Bill van Jura of the North Jersey Club gave me a call a week ago. It seems his company has one of GretagMacbeth's nifty Spectrolino and Spectroscan instruments and one of his people wanted to measure density with it. He put me in touch with his person and we walked through the procedure over the phone. In short, I had them up and running within the hour, doing exactly what they needed to be done! All because he had an 'IN' at GretagMacbeth. Bill, I was happy to do it for you." Your Knowledge Network At WORK (Y'KNOW?) |
