By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO Greetings Craftsmen: Now that the morning deliveries from Airborne and Fed X and UPS have arrived, we thought you might like a update on progress towards making the 24th International Gallery of Superb Printing the biggest event we've ever hosted. Keep in mind that the IAPHC Budget Committee presented a Budget for the 1997-1998 IAPHC fiscal year that was unanimously approved by the IAPHC Board of Governors. This fiscal year's approved budget anticipated fee income from International Gallery entries and from duplicate Gallery award sales in a dollar amount that represents 38.54% of the annual income for the Association. The point has been made that this heavy reliance on the International Gallery has a negative impact on the IAPHC's cash flow in the 10 or 11 months prior to the bulge of Gallery entries (and associated fee income) that arrives in May or even June. Indeed this heavy reliance has created the reality of a monthly operating deficit for most of the months prior to the Gallery revenue bulge. Keep in mind that as this memo is being written, we have 19 calendar days remaining in the 1997-1998 IAPHC fiscal year. We began today with approximately 767 promised entries not yet arrived. Today's deliveries brought 94 from the Seattle Club; 18 from the Conestogo Club; 2 from the Oklahoma City Club; 10 from the St. Louis Club; 12 from the Lima Area Club, 6 from the North Shore Club; and 2 from the Toronto Club. We received 131 expected entries and 13 more unexpected entries. Friday June 12th will be the last official shipping day before the judging commences on Monday June 15th. As of today we have 2262 entries at Gallery Headquarters Entries on the way that we know about: Montreal -- 490 entries -- shipped LTL on June 4th. Windsor -- 24 entries -- shipped UPS Next day air June 11th Toronto -- 6 entries -- the final entries located by Tom Blanchard North Jersey -- 20 entries -- to be hand delivered by Dan Marantz, judge Fort Wayne -- 9 entries -- to be hand delivered by Jody Sorsen, judge Milwaukee -- 27 entries -- to be hand delivered by Debbie Stanton and Chris Schneider, judges Lansing -- 6 entries Detroit -- 8 entries Jacksonville -- 3 entries -- shipped next day.... Jacksonville -- 9 entries -- coordinated by local ad firm St. John & Partners Los Angeles -- 10 entries Cincinnati -- 3 entries -- shipped by Bill Orr June 11th Pittsburgh -- 10 entries -- shipped by Jim Regan June 10th Huntsman Pkg -- 11 entries -- to be shipped June 11th Total: 636 entries still in transit, that we know about. And in raw US dollars, with no adjustment for late fees, mounting fees, non- member fees and Canadian exchange rates, those 636 expected entries represent $22,260 in revenue for your Association. In addition, we have been told to expect entries from members Steve Jecha (MAL), Kevin Meckley of the York Club, Joyce Stone of the St. Louis Club; Mike Rippberger of the Albuquerque Club, and Jeff Boehr, Michael Frueh, Bob Liddle, and Randy Raymond of the Lima Area Club, Jan Buttle of the Seattle Club and possibly Larry Leece of the Lansing Club and possibly Richard Burnham of the Baltimore Club and possibly Don Sebold, (MAL). With receipt of the above entries we will celebrate the largest International Gallery of Superb Printing ever, and with a bit of luck we may hit 3,000 entries. There is still time to enter. We will accept Saturday deliveries on June 13th and will have someone in the office in the morning hours of Monday June 15th and Tuesday June 16th to accept last minute deliveries those days as well. Those entries will then be brought immediately to the judging site. We would like to close this recap by thanking all the many individual members, and Clubs and Districts who labor so hard to assist us in meeting the ever greater revenue expectations for the International Gallery year after year. We know it would not happen without your personal commitment and support. And of course, there is always next year. 1999 will mark the 25th Anniversary year for the International Gallery. Perhaps we should think now about creating a Silver Anniversary Edition of the Call for Entries. Perhaps we should set a still more ambitious goal for entry total in the 25th Anniversary International Gallery. And maybe in light of the information shared in this memo, all of us need to consider the very real financial impact on the IAPHC in terms of cash flow, running a balanced budget, and the tidal wave of work flow in the 11th hour. The International Gallery is our premier program, it is our most important tool. And we have just begun to scratch the surface of its potential. YIC Kevin Keane IAPHC Minneapolis MN |
