By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO On Gallery Sponsorships "Experience from other companies indicates that naming sponsorships build national name recognition more quickly than any other form of advertising." Conseco Chairman and CEO Stephen Hilbert. We have been very pleased to see the positive reaction from the vendor community to our first attempt to acquire naming sponsorships for the International Gallery of Superb Printing top Awards. We just heard from Ed Kelly that Baldwin Graphic Products should be the next to add their name to the list of these fine firms who are the sponsors for this year: PrimeSource Corporation Pitman Company Spexel Inc Brandtjen & Kluge Finch, Pruyn Kodak Polychrome Neenah Western States Envelope Blanks USA Congrats to Craftsmen We want to offer our congratulations to Sue Schmidt of the Milwaukee-Racine Club upon her election as Sixth District Governor at the recent 6th District Spring Conference. Sue just finished up her term as IAPHC membership chair and has been an indefatigable volunteer for the International Gallery judging. We wish her well in her duties as Governor. So too we congratulate a very deserving Eighth District Governor Cindy Johnson for receiving Craftsmen of the Year honors from her home club of Waterloo- Cedar Falls. We say thanks in admiration as well as congratulations to Pete Peterson of the Milwaukee-Racine club who sold $640 worth of CASH-IN TO WIN tickets. Remember the purpose of this little promotion. Unlike Clubs, the IAPHC hasn't had access to traditional fund raising events such as Golf tournaments. As was recently seen in Powerball mania, people will take a flyer on a drawing with exceedingly long odds. CASH-IN TO WIN odds, if all 2,000 tickets are sold, are 26 lucky winners -- much better odds. Martie Hughes requested that we send a couple tickets to her in Buffalo, the St. Louis Club has been selling their supply of tickets at Club events; Jeff Mayer, new Second District Governor has been selling the tickets all through his District; Fred Hutchinson of the Seattle Club even prepared a special CASH-IN TO WIN flyer for his Club members. The Craftsmen Foundation Cindy Johnson also obtained another Foundation commitment from a Waterloo- Cedar Falls member when Jim Slife of Pioneer Graphics asked that we invoice him for his contribution. Jeff Cooper of the Sierra-Nevada Club also passed along his thanks to the folks that have been helping him spread the word about The Craftsmen Foundation. His crew includes Norm Belanger of Calgary, Ray Rafalowski of Cincinnati, Rick Salberg of North Shore, Cindy Johnson, John Leininger of the Triangle Club, Karen Schuetz of Seattle and Don Landers of San Francisco. On What We Do From time to time a new member may inquire about what IAPHC membership offers. In essence, because we are an individual membership association, we react to the needs of individual members. What one member needs may be invisible to you, but it is important to them. So, when our Chairman asks for help in tracking down people who use the Indigo or Xeikon digital presses he receives a wealth of information; information about Craftsmen members who will gladly Share their Knowledge with him; and information which is often gleaned through entries in the International Gallery. So too when a member of Capital District needs an employment agreement; or a member of Milwaukee-Racine wants to obtain clarification on reproducing images of US currency; or a member needs help evaluating the price for a printing business. And our members enjoy the individual value received: "Thanks for your help, and also for the great information in TMN. I have reviewed and subsequently cancelled many e-mail newsletters, however I find TMN interesting, informative and pertinent to my business. Keep up the great work." Bob Dale, member of the Toronto Club in an e-mail dated May 20, 1998. "Thanks for all your help - your the best." Becky Klitzke, Rocky Mountain Club in an e-mail dated May 19, 1998. Reminders The Delegate Credentials for the Rochester Convention have been mailed to all clubs, as have the forms for Club Officer Rosters. Rochester Convention early bird registration ends June 15th. If you need the forms faxed please let us know. A one page description of the Tech Seminars at the Rochester Convention is available also, we would be happy to fax you a copy. Finally, International Gallery Entry Counts 2,283 in 1994 2,445 in 1995 2,358 in 1996 2,817 in 1997 and in 1998? Who knows? The entries keep on coming and we are 13 days past the nominal entry deadline! Judging will occur on June 15 and 16 however, so your time is limited. GET THOSE ENTRIES moving! PLEASE! Still on the way: 250 from the 11th District 11 more from Portland 27 from Fraser Valley 3 from Jacksonville (and more from a Jacksonville ad agency) 65 from Winnipeg 95 from Seattle 13 from Waterloo-Cedar Falls 14 from Central Wisconsin 582 from Montreal and we keep counting. And we keep saying thank you to ALL who have already entered. One final note of personal thanks to Bob Schneider, president of the Cincinnati Club. Bob is an active true believer in the potential of the International Gallery. He obtained the most entries of ANY individual member in 1997. He has obtained 50 entries from the firm Landoll's the past two years running. But there was one company he knew we wanted badly. A Cincinnati company whose marketing slogan is Showmanship in Printing; a firm who reputedly budgets as much as $100,000 a year for entry fees to the PIA Premier Print Awards and who has a reputation for bringing home more Benny awards than almost anyone. If we could get them to participate in the International Gallery it will offer us wonderful marketing hooks with other well known firms. The firm is Hennegan, and Bob believes so much in the importance of the participation of firms like Hennegan that he paid the entry fee from his own checkbook. Now that's what we call being a world class Gallery Go Getter! |
