Club and IAPHC News
By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO

Y'KNOW Requests

Your Knowledge Network Obviously Works (Y'KNOW?)

- From Bill Morton of the Portland Club and Heidelberg USA: "You seem to know how to find most everything. I have a small challenge. I am looking for the manufacturer of a machine that foil stamps names on pencils. Any ideas?" You can e-mail Bill at Morton_Bill@heidelbergusa.com

- From Gary Preston of the Columbus Club: "looking for a 2 color or 2 color convertible press in good running condition. Need a 20 x 26 or 19 x 25." You can reach Gary via e-mail at Gary.Preston@rossnutrition.com

- From Jerry Hill, past 11th District Governor: "Digital is really changing the future of our industry. However regular print isn't gone yet. The other day I had a friend from Xerox call to get my suggestions on the purchase of some small offset presses. It appears that in the digital reprographics plant he works with keeps getting requests for stationery items and other two color type work. I have also heard that small offset presses are still in demand. Can anyone offer any feedback?" Jerry can be reached via e-mail at jhill@andlitho.com

Errata

Last week we had identified Dr. Harvey Levenson as co-chair of the Graphic Arts Literacy Alliance (G.A.L.A.). That is no longer correct. John Werner, who publishes Graphic Communications World and Richard Burnham of the Baltimore Club are the co-chairs currently.

Convention Reminder

A reminder that we will again be hosting the G.A.L.A. Auction as part of the Silver Anniversary International Gallery of Superb Printing Awards show during the 80th Annual IAPHC Convention being held in St. Louis, Missouri August 7-10, 1999. If you have items for the auction please contact the writer. And by now all members should have received their St. Louis Convention mailing. If you did not, we would be happy to send you another copy. It is time to get registered to meet Us In St. Louis!

International Gallery Status Report

Today we received 28 entries from C & C Offset Printing Company, Ltd., The New Territories, Hong Kong. And three additional entries from Mid-Hudson member Andy Cooley with Merchants Press, a first time entrant. We now stand at 14.63 per cent of our goal. Yet as we talk to members and clubs it is clear that record numbers of entries are on the way. Brenda Millard of the Des Moines Club is personally delivering more than 70 Des Moines Club entries this Saturday. What dedication. And of course there is that little tiny shopping Mall called the mauling of america. Batten the hatches, here comes the long awaited and much appreciated deluge. Holy Gallery Tsunami!

CASH IN TO WIN Reminder

Our thanks to Jean and Blair Dreyfus of the San Francisco Club for their purchase of three CASH IN TO WIN tickets. If you need a ticket just let us know!

District Conference Season

Our congratulations to the hosts of the Second and Fourth District Conferences, by all accounts the participants had a marvelous time last weekend. Good company and good Sharing of Knowledge. If you haven't decided whether to attend your District's event, don't hesitate to go, you'll be delighted by the new friends you make and the networking you'll accomplish.

Teaser

In the next TMN we will inform you about the San Francisco Club playing host to a delegation of Russian graphic arts company owners and about the phenomenal success of the Los Angeles Club's recent meeting at the Heidelberg demonstration center in Rancho Dominguez, California.

That's All Folks!

Yours in Craftsmanship,

Kevin Keane IAPHC Minneapolis Minnesota
