Our amazed admiration to Pete Peterson, Sixth District President who stopped by early this week with ANOTHER $400 worth of ticket sale proceeds in the CASH IN TO WIN promotion. If you haven't yet sent in your ticket and donation please do so soon! Pete's goal is to sell 250 tickets. WOW! Jim Lower Award Winner The recipient of the Jim Lower Award (named in honor of esteemed past International President Jim Lower of the Calgary Club) was announced at the 10th District Spring Conference, held on board the Sun Princess Cruise Ship May 13-17, 1999. Karen Schuetz is this year's Jim Lower Award winner. Karen is a freelance graphic designer and owner of DESIGNGRAPHIC. She has been editor of the Seattle Club's bulletin 'The Layout' for the past four years. She won this prestigious award for producing the best club bulletin in the district. The bulletins are judged on graphics and editorial content. Karen has also recently designed a clean, elegant new stationery for the IAPHC's Platinum Reserve Fund. Our congratulations and thanks to her. Muller Martini Maps Minneapolis It was this writer's honor to be the after dinner speaker at a recent gathering of Muller Martini sales representatives and company officials from around North America. Our thanks to Bob Schneider of the Cincinnati Club for suggesting it. And our gratitude to Executive Officers Kaspar Meier, Ralph Box and Werner Naegli for their gracious hospitality. We mentioned to the good folks at Muller Martini that the pages of TMN can only be benefited by information from the post press side of our business, and make the same offer to all our readers. If there is something you like to see us cover, please send it along. Y'KNOW, It Really Works - From Cathy Hatfield, new president of the Greater Lexington Club: "On Friday afternoon (June 4) at about 3:30 PM a vendor chosen by one of our clients backed out. The job entailed 1250 CD's and cases. The CD's needed to be duplicated from the master disk, then screen printed; the jewel case front and back cover needed 4 color process printing and then the whole thing had to be assembled, and be in San Francisco by June 19th. I didn't have a clue who to call and the artwork needed to go. I called Bill Orr up in Cincinnati, my Fifth District Governor. He suggested I call fellow IAPHC member Del Skeens of Prepress Service Inc., in Cincinnati. By 4:30 that same afternoon, Del called me with an estimate and I had approval from the client and we could FedX the artwork. Just wanted to share a story of how Y'KNOW really works! You can give Bill Orr the gold star for the day!" Y'KNOW Requests Your Knowledge Network Obviously Works (Y'KNOW?) - From James Nutter of the Lansing Club: "Do any of your readers have any information about the TransCal Corporation's discontinued RIP software? We are using version 1.0.0b1 of TransScript on a Stealth Dominator RIP and would like to update it. Unfortunately, the TransCal Corporation is no longer in business so they are no help. Would any of your readers have the software for this RIP that they would be willing to part with? Thank you." You can reach James via e-mail at captype@voyager.net - From North Shore Club member Gary Smith: "We have an employee who works 4 days a week 10 hours a day (Tuesday thru Friday) If a holiday falls on a Monday, we don't know how to pay the employee for the holiday. We also don't know how to pay vacation time since five 10 hour days would be more pay than five 8 hour days. Would any readers be willing to share the manner in which they handle these situations? Thanks." You can reach Gary via e-mail at TnGSmith@aol.com - From member-at-large Roger Buck: "I am looking for a source for printed plastic ziplock bags. Thanks for your help and a great newsletter, I never miss reading it no matter where I am. Also, several months back your newsletter helped me find a warehouse distribution firm in Vancouver. I now need a similar operation in Calgary. Do you know anyone I could contact? Thanks!" Roger can be reached via e-mail at rogerbuck@terraworld.net - From North Jersey Club member Paul Lamendola: "Looking for information about a two color envelope press. Not looking for an ultra high speed press, but just something to replace our present two color Multi with an envelope feeder and conveyor. Would like to get something better than we presently have, but don't want to spend a ton of money on this press." WIll TMN Appear Next Week? That's a mystery known only to the Great Gallery Guru, who is also the Great Gallery Gopher and who is also the Great Gallery Gnat. If we hit our budgeted number of entries then the annoying buzz of the baldheaded one bugging you for entries will finally cease and he can write TMN unhindered. But if those numbers are still in doubt, well then...... Stop the Gnat in his tracks. Send one more entry. Please. And Thank You! That's All Folks!
