Club and IAPHC News
By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO

International Printing Week is fast approaching. The 56th annual observance will take place January 16-22, 2000. The theme in that millennial year is:

Ripping into the Future - Creating a Lasting Impression

Dr. John Leininger of Clemson University is the IAPHC's International Printing Week chair. He is enjoying a week of training on the DigiPath solution from Xerox at the Leesburg, Virginia training facility run by Xerox, but called with the news that he will begin shipping the International Printing Week posters designed by Karen Schuetz of the Seattle Club, and printed at Clemson, early next week. If you need to reach John via e-mail, contact him at ljohn@clemson.edu

IAPHC Mid-Year Meeting

The dates are February 4 and 5, 2000. The place is the Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The registration fee to offset catering costs is $35 per person if you register in advance via e-mail; or $50 per person at the door. On Friday we will have a budget meeting from 9:30 til Noon and a Focus Group in the afternoon on membership and the International Gallery from 1:30 til 4:30. There is an all day Board meeting on Saturday. All members are cordially invited. If you need to make room reservations at the Stardust, please call 800/634/6757, ask for the Convention desk and identify yourself with group IAPHC00. Please note that your credit card will be charged for one nights stay minimum.

Gallery News

The Call for Entries for the 26th annual International Gallery of Superb printing, all new, beautifully designed and printed thanks to the several efforts of members of the North Jersey Club, is now available for shipping. If you want some, you need to send an e-mail to Dan Marantz, our indefatigable International Gallery Co-Chair at dmarantz@aol.com The new Call is very cool and if by chance you have a Denver Broncos fan in the family, you need to order at least 16 Calls immediately.

Remember, the entry period for the 26th International Gallery in the year 2000 is now open. Yours can't be the first entry, as we had the first one the day after judging of the 1999 event, but you could be one of the first of thousands more to come!

Des Moines Needs Judges -- If by chance, you would be able to help the Des Moines Club with the judging of 300 to 400 superb printing entries on Saturday November 27 please contact one of the dem delightful Des Moines damsels in distress via e-mail:

Kristie Becker at kristie@accentlabel.com Brenda Millard at brenda@the-printer.com

Remember, when you are a judge, you are infallible. And how often can you say that?

Y'KNOW Requests

Your Knowledge Network Obviously Works (Y'KNOW??)

Last week we saw yet another example of how quickly the Knowledge Network can benefit a member when Mark Miller of the Lansing Club and Millbrook Printing e-mailed an inquiry about SPC codes. Within a few hours Bill Orr, Fifth District Governor from the Cincinnati Club and Stevenson Photo Color had provided an expert answer.

Y'KNOW is: Global, not merely local Expertise specific Fast, really fast!

- From Dennis Gongwer, president of the Columbus Club:

"I have a customer who is looking for a company to personalize 40 plus, templated Quark files with 2 photos, name and address information on each and burn CD's in large quantities (2,500 and up, each with the same template but different personal information.) Please respond to kkeane1069@aol.com and I will hook you up with Dennis and his client.

- From Michael Keller:

"Abaris International is doing a feasibility study on printing (sheetfed or other) PETG, PVC lenticular lenses. I would appreciate any information in regard to ink option, registration, static etc." You can contact Michael via e-mail at abaris@lightspeed.net

Thank You

I would like to thank the North Jersey Club for their generous donation to the IAPHC Platinum Reserve Fund in memory of my son, Nolan Keane. As Nolan was 'impressed' into the service of the IAPHC and the International Gallery on more than one occasion, it seems fitting. Thank you also for the torrent of e-mailed messages of condolences. Each message was very much appreciated.

That's All Folks!

Yours in Craftsmanship,

Kevin Keane IAPHC Minneapolis Minnesota
