By Kevin Keane, IAPHC CEO New Name for the Scholarship Trust Fund Many IAPHC member Clubs have placed their scholarship funds under the care of the umbrella scholarship organization administered by the GATF in Pittsburgh, PA. Until recently that organization has been called the NSTF. Now the name has been changed to Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. (PGSF) For more info contact Alissa Gould at 412-741-6860, ext 702 or e-mail pgsf@gatf.org Congratulations to Kagy Winners Frederick D. Kagy was one of the legends of Craftsmanship and it is therefore very fitting that an award bearing his name was recently presented to three extraordinary schools, two of which have close IAPHC ties. The three schools are Hilton Central High in Rochester, New York; Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Cincinnati, Ohio; and Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Now in its seventh year, the Kagy Award was established by GATF's Society of Fellows to recognize an exemplary middle school, high school or community college graphic communications program. Ron Hindmarch of Hilton High and Gary Walton of Cincinnati State are both long time, well known IAPHC members. Congratulations to them both. Y'KNOW Requests Your Knowledge Network Obviously Works (Y'KNOW?) In keeping with point 5 in our Ruminations segment above, it remains a source of true pride when a member helps another wherever located. Just prior to the holidays, John Zbaren asked to be hooked up with PagePath Technologies In Bensenville, Illinois which was mentioned in the 117th issue of TMN. On the same day, 23 December, Steve Ciesmier of the latter firm wrote: "Thanks for the referral. We now have over 400 MyOrderDesk accounts in a little over 20 days. The feedback has been great." (www.pagepath.com) From John Myers of the Richmond, Virginia Club: "I need the help of Craftsmen beyond the mid-Atlantic region. My company is researching the feasibility of adding Computer to Plate, but is having trouble with the ROI. We are a prepress company and will be offering this service on a regional basis. The information supplied by the equipment manufacturers may not be fully reliable and because of the expense I would feel more comfortable with a little real life experience. Anyone willing to discuss the ins and outs on a confidential basis, please e-mail me at thflrdsg@aol.com Thank you. From a Detroit Club member: "I am interested in Internet sites that are helpful in selling used printing equipment. I would like this to be a site independent of an equipment brokerage company or dealer. Please contact me at mgonte@egprint.com From Albuquerque Club member Mike Rippberger: "We have printed and die cut Nashua Pharmaceal for use in blister packs. They are not sealing. Can anyone help us with an alternative paper choice? Please contact me via e-mail at aikenprinting@uswest.net 81st IAPHC Convention in Reno this August Now that we are fully immersed in the millennial year (either it just happened or it will on 1/1/2001) we want to start getting you all fired up about attending the Reno Convention, hosted by the Eleventh District and using the theme The Edge of the Millennium, it is sure to be a memorable, wonderful event. Look for more info in future TMN issues. That's All Folks! Yours in Craftsmanship, Kevin Keane IAPHC Minneapolis Minnesota | ||||||||||||
