GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR LIVING WITH COMMITMENT
My Mom, bless her heart, forwards a variety of e-mails to me; many make me smile, groan, and hit the delete button right away. But once in a while, there is a true keeper. I was so touched by one recently that I shared it with those in attendance at the Jacksonville Printing Week Banquet in January. Apparently it touched others, as well, because many people asked for a copy of it. I’d like to share it with you, too. I’ve mixed up the order because I’d like to relate several of them to the IAPHC. Here it is:
The most destructive habit: Worry.
Our greatest natural resource: Our youth.
The greatest "shot in the arm": Encouragement.
The greatest problem to overcome: Fear.
The most effective sleeping pill: Peace of mind.
The most powerful force in life: Love.
|
The most dangerous pariah: A gossiper.
The world's most incredible computer: The brain.
The deadliest weapon: The tongue.
The greatest asset: Faith.
The most powerful channel of communication: Prayer.
The most worthless emotion: Self-pity.
The most beautiful attire: A smile.
As we continue to struggle with growing the membership and promoting Gallery, it will help us to consider these principles:
The greatest loss: Loss of self-respect.
The most satisfying work: Helping others.
The ugliest personality trait: Selfishness.
The most endangered species: Dedicated leaders.
The most crippling disease: Excuses.
The two most power-filled words: "I Can."
The most prized possession: Integrity.
The most contagious spirit: Enthusiasm.
The worst thing to be without: Hope.
The greatest joy: Giving.

luck I seem to have." We cannot sit around waiting and hoping that Gallery entries will come in on their own or that someone else will take care of it. We all have to make the effort. Your association is depending on you.
Now is the time for all good Craftsmen to come to the aid of their association. We have the power to sustain—and even grow—the IAPHC, but not without commitment, dedication, and hard work.
Ask yourself: “What have I done lately for the IAPHC? Has my company entered Gallery? Have I asked my clients and vendors to enter? Do I need Call For Entries? Have I been to the website lately?” The CFE can be downloaded from CraftNet at:
www.iaphc.org/gallery/cfe/.
So far, we have reached a pathetic 2.146% of our Gallery goal. As of this writing, we have 53 calendar days remaining before the May 15th entry cutoff date, which is only 14.75% of our year. We all need to take ownership of this challenge if we are to reach the remaining 97.854% of our goal.
Let’s see some commitment, enthusiasm, and integrity from each and every member. Now is the time.
Yours in Craftsmanship,
Bill Orr
