Chairman’s message, January 2005
It’s a New Year!
As the New Year begins, it’s a good time
to reflect on the past year and make
resolutions for the new.
We have had an exciting 2004 in our
association. Our rebirth process got started with the
forming of a Strategic Planning Committee in Las Vegas
in February. That committee formulated a rebirth plan
that was unveiled and approved at our first ever
convention at sea, from Vancouver to Alaska. The rebirth
implementation started at the convention with the
appointment of a group of Vice Presidents responsible
for a variety of tasks. A committee was struck to review
and rewrite our bylaws. A convention committee was
struck to review and reinvent our International
meetings.
All of these dedicated volunteers have
been striving diligently to accomplish their goals.
Thank you all for your grit and determination. In all my
25 years as a member of this association, I have never
seen such a large group of diverse volunteers work so
hard for our association. It is this dedication that
inspires me to say that this association will be bigger
and better than it has ever been.
Although well under way, our task isn’t
done yet. The bylaws committee will have our first draft
bylaws complete by early January. Regions, Chapters and
members will have an opportunity to read this document
online at www.IAPHC.org when complete. Your comments
will be welcome. These bylaws either revised or as is
will be discussed and voted on at our Mid Year meeting
scheduled for February 18 & 19. Regions will also have
time to meet and discuss business while in Vegas.
Register online for this event at our web site.
Our VPs have put together a list of
goals for there respective committees and will be
reporting to you the membership in Las Vegas. Our BRIDGS
certification program is in full swing and we have
received many requests and inquiries.
Preparations for the Jacksonville
Convention are well under way. The executive team had
the opportunity to visit the Marriott Sawgrass Resort in
December. For those of you that attended the ‘95
convention at this resort, you will not recognize it.
The resort has undergone major renovations and has many
more amenities, including a third swimming pool, which
I’m sure will be getting a lot of use in August. This
convention will be run under a new convention model
which will be more informative, more fun and much more
productive than previous conventions. We will also have
more free time to explore or relax. The Board of
Directors will be meeting prior to the start of
convention to handle our business. That means that
members will no longer be required to attend early
morning business sessions. Please make plans to attend a
convention like none before it.
Wishing you a successful and happy 2005.
