Chairman’s Message, June 2005

What a Year!

As this may be my final Chairman’s Message for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to recap our achievements this year.

It all started with the adoption of our Strategic Plan and the vote to accept our new Constitution at last year’s historic convention aboard the Cruise Ship Infinity. The plan called for a reorganization of our association that would see our 10 Districts being reorganized into 5 Regions, our Board of Directors being given the responsibility to oversee long range planning and our Headquarters being given the responsibility and the authority to manage the day to day stewardship of our Association. You, the individual member, was given the power by vote to elect the Board of Directors.

The implementation of the strategic plan started immediately after its adoption with the striking of a Bylaws Committee to rewrite our bylaws. These new bylaws were adopted at our Mid-Year Board meeting in Las Vegas in February of this year.

The Management team, under the direction of our CEO and President was restructured to include a group of Vice Presidents to assist in various aspects of association management.

We redesigned our logo and adopted the tag line “The Graphic Professionals Resource Network”. Our focus changed from “Share your Knowledge” to the more comprehensive and EPIC focus of Educate, Promote, Inform and Connect. Everything we do from now on will be based of this new motto. This is our reason for being.

The new structure encouraged a marked increase in communication and connection with our members, in the form of The Communicator, the Knowledge Network (Y’KNOW), weekly eblasts, EDUs and Connection 101 articles. CraftNet was upgraded to provide more benefit and continues to grow and improve weekly. The Gallery of Superb Printing, our premier awards program, continues to drive our public image, revenues and membership.

As I write this, a policy committee is meeting weekly via 2 hour conference calls to rewrite our policy manual. This new manual will be unveiled at the Jacksonville Convention in August.

In the 25 years or so that I have been a member of the IAPHC, I have never seen so many members step forward to volunteer so much of their time to help, as I have seen in the last two years with this rebirth of our association. Thank you to all. I have never been as proud to be a Craftsmen.

Sincerely,
Norm Belanger,
Chairman, IAPHC- The Graphic Professionals Resource Network
