IAPHC Announces the International Craftsman of the Year 2000 If we needed a benchmark to measure our own commitment to upholding the precepts of Craftsmanship, our newest International Craftsman of the Year would be ideal. Frieda Rothbaum Sarubbi sets a high standard with her unending and unbending dedication for Craftsmanship, which is the hallmark of being accorded the IAPHC's highest honor. Frieda joined the North Jersey Club in 1986. She immediately threw herself into becoming an involved member by serving first on that Club's Board of Governor's and then as Financial Secretary. She went through the chairs of her Club and it was her two-year term as President that provided the impetus for the rise of the North Jersey Club in prominent success. Her ten year involvement with her Club and her beloved Second District culminated in her receipt of the Second District Craftsman of the Year Award in 1997. Other IAPHC members noted Frieda's energy and enthusiasm, and she was tapped in quick succession for the roles of International Bulletin Chair, International Printing Week Chair and is currently serving as IAPHC Procurement Chair. In each position she would cajole, encourage and sometimes 'motivate' people to perform as they had promised. The Office of Special Letters at the White House in Washington, DC learned very quickly that the word "No" is not in Frieda's vocabulary. Frieda relocated to the Greater Milwaukee Area in 1996 and she brought her drive and determination into action on that Club's Board, serving as Membership Chair and catalyst for change. She has served as IAPHC Procurement Chair for the past three years and has secured donations of goods and services well in excess of $100,000 for the Association. As if this resume of accomplishment were not enough, Frieda moved to Chicago this past year. Somehow, while settling into a new home and job, and keeping our International Chairman settled down too, Frieda found time to make phone calls across the continent encouraging, cajoling and motivating people to submit their International Gallery entries, dozens of which we would not have received were it not for her efforts. It is fitting and entirely deserved that Frieda Rothbaum Sarubbi be accorded the International Craftsman of the Year Award for the Year 2000. |
